Mala Gaonkar, Founder and Chief Investment Officer: Prior to founding SurgoCap, Mala was a founding partner of Lone Pine Capital LLC (“Lone Pine”) in 1998. In 2001, she was named portfolio manager for Lone Pine’s technology, media, internet and telecommunications exposure. She gained further responsibility across sectors through her role as co-portfolio manager of Lone Pine’s long-only funds that launched in 2005. Mala took over day-to-day leadership for running Lone Pine as one of three co-portfolio managers in January 2019. Prior to joining Lone Pine, Mala worked for The Boston Consulting Group, Chase Capital Partners as an Analyst, and was also a Kauffman Fellow. She attended Harvard University and Harvard Business School. Mala is a founding trustee of the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering and the Tate Foundation. She is a co-founder and Board member of Surgo Ventures, Inc., an independent 501(c)(3), and board member of Surgo Health P.B.C., a public benefit corporation, organizations which use data driven solutions to solve health and social problems.
