Deb Shufrin joined Colby College as Chief Investment Office in April 2021. She is responsible for overseeing the investment portfolio as well as managing the risk and liquidity of the endowment in conjunction with the investment committee. 

Deb has a background in both investment analysis and economic development. Immediately prior to joining Colby, she spent ten years as Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Director of Investments at the Brandeis University office of investments. She previously served as a director and mezzanine analyst at Hancock Capital Management, vice president and equity analyst at MFS Investment Management, and credit analyst at Morgan Stanley. 

In her economic development roles, Deb served as senior vice president of programs at The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City, an economic development research organization founded by Harvard Business School Professor Michael Porter to drive private sector investment into businesses in distressed urban areas. Deb also served as a member of Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s cabinet in economic development where she led several agencies responsible for business development, small business and entrepreneurship, women and minority-owned business assistance, travel and tourism, and international trade for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 

Deb has served on numerous boards including the Massachusetts Technology Development Corporation (now Mass Ventures), the Massachusetts Community Development Finance Corporation, and the Brandeis University Alumni Association. She currently serves on the investment committees of The Harold Alfond Foundation and The International Institute of New England, a nonprofit organization that provides resettlement and educational services to refugees and immigrants. She also serves on the Asset Management Council at Brandeis University. 

Deb graduated summa cum laude with a BA in economics from Brandeis University and has an MBA from The Wharton School.
